Our Vision… … The Royal Harmonics does not particularly aspire to become a large group. It does seek to be a good quality group. The vision of the group is encapsulated in the tag line above - “Pursuing singing excellence and serious fun”. We welcome all good singers who share that aim.
Our members enjoy tackling music in a range of a cappella styles, learning it quickly and accurately. They are not required to read music (even though it helps). However, they do and will demonstrate an ability to perform, to commit themselves to the emotional content of our music, and thereby contribute to a uniformly believable performance for our audiences. Perhaps above all they are willing to learn.
Some of the ’serious fun’ comes from the hard work involved in learning and improving. Quite a lot comes from delivering a varied and interesting entertainment package. And the balance? Well that’s just ‘fun fun’, enjoyed in the company of a sociable group of guys who love the pure harmonies of the human voice.
A Brief History…
… of the Royal Harmonics.
The Royal Harmonics was formed in the Autumn of 2000 when a group of half a dozen experienced singers/performers came together with a shared aim of “pursuing singing excellence and serious fun”.
Within eighteen months the group had grown to around 20, and made its mark in the world of Barbershop singing, winning both the South of England championship and the national Best Small Chorus awards at the first attempt. Since then it has become firmly and consistently established as one of the top handful of choruses in the UK. It remains by a significant margin the smallest of the top UK choruses, its clean, unified sound compensating for what it lacks in number.
